Programme notes

  • Big NoiseWritten and directed by Sara Buckingham
Written into a third raate novel, drummer Laurence Mayer arrives at the book signing of his creator, author Bob Hundert, to request a change of scene. Hard pressed, with a prison sentence and a broken engagement behind him, Meyer would like a chance at success. Hundert, now selling out writing thrillers, doesn't need the complication and enlists the help of one of his more recent characters.
  • BashWriten and directed by Chris Buxton
This is a story about a company I used to work for. Actually, it's about every place I've ever worked at. Y'know the kind of places, you work with the same people every day, you go out with them every night. Pretty soon your whole life is one closed, incestuous little world. Bash is a portrait of one such world. Life for boys at the office revolves around the bar they frequent after work. All is well until one phone call changes it all...
  • 59Writen and directed by Ger Carey
59 is the story of two middle-aged farmers who are forced to confront painful memories when they try to sell an old tractor. The film features the well-known irish actor, Eamon Morrisey, and was shot and edited by Cardiff-based filmmaker, Phil Cowan. 59 had it's premier at the Dublin Film Festival and will be shown on RTE Television later this year. Ger Carey would like to sincerely thank all those who helped on the film.
  • The KnowledgeWriten and directed by Chris Forster
Stefan is a hypochondriac. He has moved to a strange city and his asthma is getting worse. Intent on making sense of his sitution, he embarks on a bizarre geography project. Reinventing maps of the city, he imagines a more personal view of the world.
  • Mother wasn't born to wear second hand shoesWriten and directed by David Howard
The film is deliciously dark and macabre story about the anamalisms in man as seen through the eyes of a small, short-sighted boy. The use of an easy, unforced visual surrealism, voyeuristic camerawork, chiaroscuro lighting nd pop-gothic colours draw the viewer into the film's inverted world.
  • Life in the fast laneWriten and directed by Alex Ireson
The story of an old man, his relationship with the community and his place in a world he no longer understands. We follow his journey, one Saturdad night and watch as he tries to connect with the people around him.
  • Blue PrintWriten and directed by Gareth Johnson
An Architect's obsession with pure modernist design lies behind his devotion to a beautiful but aggressive and unstable young man. He is forced into making an uninvited visit in a desparate attempt to rescue the doomed relationship and with it both his floundering aesthetic convictions and his sanity.
  • Supported by BAFTA Cymru and Chapter Arts Center
